Bittensor Subnet Builder Program

Build a subnet in 30 days. Ship it with operators behind you.

Subnet Forge is a focused one-month residency held in person at Network School in Johor, Malaysia for teams and solo builders who want to design, implement, benchmark, and present a production-ready Bittensor subnet. Our goal is to make Network School the first stable in-person Bittensor hub for existing builders and people new to Bittensor. Sparse programming: mostly build time.

To be reviewed for Subnet Forge, submit through this website's application button. General Network School applications are reviewed separately.

Tuition is free. On-site package starts at $1,500/person/month, all-inclusive: blueprint-designed food, gym access, coworking space access, and pool access.

Clear details before you commit to applying

In Person at Network School

This intensive is held in person at Network School in Johor, Malaysia. We are building it as a stable, real-world Bittensor hub for both established builders and newcomers. Use ns.com for host context.

Cohort cadence

Rolling admissions with recurring one-month cohorts throughout the year.

Decision timeline

Most applicants receive an accept / decline / waitlist update within 5 business days.

What is covered

Program tuition is $0 for accepted builders. On-site package starts at $1,500/person/month, all-inclusive: blueprint-designed food, gym access, coworking space access, and pool access. Travel is not included by default.

What You Get

Designed to turn a subnet thesis into a shipped subnet in one month

Subnet Architecture Lab

Define incentive structure, validator-miner behavior, and anti-gaming constraints with direct technical review.

Build + Benchmark

Implement subnet logic, run local testnets, tune scoring pipelines, and measure throughput and quality under load.

Launch Readiness

Package deployment scripts, produce docs, and demo a clear pathway to subnet rollout and operator onboarding.

Application-only: this is not a general workshop. We accept participants with demonstrated execution ability and a clear subnet thesis.

Why Bittensor

For AI builders who want ownership, not just a job seat

AI Background Is Enough To Start

If you are already strong in ML, evaluation, and engineering, you can learn subnet mechanics quickly inside the intensive.

Build Your Own Market

Instead of shipping inside a single company roadmap, you design and run an open subnet with your own incentive model.

Economic Upside Is Possible

Well-run subnets can create revenue and token upside, but only with strong execution, real demand, and sustained operations.

OpenAI vs Bittensor: if you want a traditional employment path, apply to OpenAI. If you want to build and own protocol-native AI infrastructure, apply to Subnet Forge.

Owner Emissions Calculator

Estimate subnet owner emissions from subnet share

Set subnet emission share from 0% to 15% to estimate owner TAO/day and USD/day.

Loading TAO/USD spot price...

%

Owner emissions: Loading... TAO/day

Owner reward: Loading... USD/day

Formula: total_emissions = 1,800 x share%; owner_emissions = total_emissions x 0.18; owner_usd = owner_emissions x TAO/USD.

1-Month Breakdown

How the month runs

Sparse programming: a few reviews and checkpoints, with large uninterrupted build blocks.

  1. Week 1

Lock the subnet thesis, scoring signal, and incentive design with technical review.

  2. Week 2

Build the miner/validator loop, repo scaffolding, and a minimal end-to-end benchmark.

  3. Week 3

Iterate scoring, run simulations, harden against gaming, and tune throughput/quality.

  4. Week 4

Deployment plan, docs, demo, and an operator-ready rollout roadmap.

After You Apply

Simple, no-call review process

  1. Step 1

Submit a short application with your subnet thesis and any links you have.

  2. Step 2

Reviewers score technical depth, build velocity, and ecosystem relevance.

  3. Step 3

You receive a decision and cohort options, usually within 5 business days.

FAQ

Common questions

Anyone serious about building a Bittensor subnet can apply. Strong engineering or AI experience helps you move faster, but it is not required.

Yes. AI background helps, but it is not essential. If you can learn quickly and execute, this program is designed to ramp you into subnet design and implementation.

Yes. Individual applicants are encouraged to apply, and strong solo applicants may be matched with other accepted builders when appropriate.

For Subnet Forge review, please use the application button on this website. General Network School applications are reviewed through a separate process.

You do not need to be an expert engineer or AI researcher. Basic coding ability and willingness to build quickly are enough to start; stronger technical depth will make the month easier.

They are different paths. OpenAI is a company role. Bittensor is a protocol ecosystem where you can launch and operate your own subnet with direct ownership and market feedback.

It is the starting on-site package price at Network School in Johor, Malaysia: $1,500/person/month all-inclusive with blueprint-designed food, gym access, coworking space access, and pool access. Program tuition for accepted builders is still $0.

No, but your application should show technical depth and a concrete subnet thesis. Existing code or research materially strengthens your application.

Potentially, yes. Some subnets may generate economic upside through strong utility and adoption. There is no guaranteed income, and outcomes depend on execution, competition, and market demand.

No. We do not buy subnet slots for applicants. We can help explain opportunity paths and may connect strong teams to potential investors.

Most applications are reviewed within 5 business days. Some may take longer if additional technical review is needed.

We evaluate technical ability, execution speed, subnet originality, and expected ecosystem impact. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

You leave with a launch roadmap, benchmark outputs, and next-step guidance for operator and ecosystem engagement.
